Every certified child seat is designed for a specific weight and height range, not an exact age. European ECE R44/04 groups seats by weight (Group 0+ up to 13 kg, Group 1 for 9–18 kg, Group 2/3 for 15–36 kg), while the newer i-Size R129 standard uses your child's height and mandates rear-facing travel until at least 15 months. Australia's AS/NZS 1754 uses Types A, B and G, which map closely to the same three stages. If your child is close to a boundary, stay in the lower category longer — especially rear-facing, which protects the head and neck far better in a frontal collision.
This matters more in Bali than at home: Indonesian law does not require child restraints, so standard taxis, ride-hailing cars and hotel shuttles almost never carry them. Which car seat does my child need in Bali?
Infants under 12 months or 13 kg need a rear-facing capsule (ECE R44 Group 0+ or i-Size R129 ≤ 75 cm). Toddlers 9 months–4 years use a harness seat (Group 1 / R129 76–105 cm). Children 4–10 years use a high-back booster (Group 2/3 / R129 100–150 cm). Australian AS/NZS 1754 Types A, B and G map to the same stages.
Do Bali taxis or Grab cars have child seats?
Almost never. Indonesian law does not require child restraints, so taxis, ride-hailing cars and hotel shuttles rarely carry them. A pre-booked transfer with the seat installed before pickup is the only reliable way to get one.
Is the car seat included in the transfer price?
Yes. Every seat — infant capsule, toddler seat or booster — is included in the fixed price. Tell us your children’s ages when booking and the right seats are installed before your driver leaves for the pickup.
How long should my child stay rear-facing?
As long as the seat allows. The i-Size R129 standard requires rear-facing until at least 15 months, and safety bodies recommend keeping children rear-facing to the seat’s height or weight limit because it protects the head and neck far better in a frontal crash.
